**Last Updated 05/13/2003 TinyMUD URL: http://ftp.game.org/ Rating: * Available Platforms: - Unix - Unsure of any Win32 ports Pros: - Very small footprint for resources - Fairly stable as long as it doens't grow too big. Cons: - Next to no functionality - Missing hardcoded features - Next to no functions or way to program. - Not expandable. If the db grows too big, that's it. Comments: This is a fun codebase to play with, but is next to useless for anything publically of any real nature. The only exception is if the codebase was modified to allow more functionality. DragonMUD is one of the rare exceptions, but was also one of the first muds in existance. TeenyMUD URL: http://ftp.game.org/ Rating: * 1/2 Available Platforms: - Unix - Unsure of other ports Pros: - Small memory imprint - Decient stability and resource use Cons: - Next to no functionality - Little to offer for expandability Comments: TeenyMUD is a branch from the TinyMUD code. As such, it also shares most of the limitations that TinyMUD itself had. Again, it's a nice codebase to play around with, but not one I'd suggest using for today's needs. UnterMUD URL: http://ftp.game.org/ Rating: ** Available Platforms: - Unix - Unsure of other ports Pros: - Able to 'jump' to other untermuds from within the game. - Fairly stable codebase - Backward compatable with TinyMUD Cons: - Limited functionality - No hardcoded functionality people want/expect - Little to offer in expandability Comments: Unter is a very unique idea. It was the first mud to ever offer porting to another untermud. For the time, very little could beat this code, but development of it went on the wayside.
